I came to singing through acting, and enjoy performing in a wide range of theatrical settings. I am at home in early music, Mozart and twentieth-century repertoire, where I take a special interest in the music of inter-war Germany and Brecht's collaborations with Weill and Eisler. I love revue music, especially the songs of Noel Coward and Tom Lehrer, which I have performed in recital alongside Graham Johnson and Dame Felicity Lott, and in outreach concerts for Opera Holland Park.
Before music college I worked in publishing, and I now translate professionally from German and Italian. My publications include several books on music, from essays on Schubert's Winterreise to a history of pop music. I have recently translated Pergolesi's opera 'La serva padrona' for performance, re-christening it 'The Revolting Maid'.
